Friday Eargoggles: Gonzales “Solo Piano”

For this Friday Eargoggles session, we’re listening to Solo Piano by Gonzales (aka “Chilly Gonzales” depending on the context). Originally released in 2004, this collection of bewitching piano compositions draws inspiration from Erik Satie while surprising listeners with subtle injections of jazz and pop.

Gonzales’ eclectic careers includes successful stints as a songwriter, music producer and rapper. At first blush, Solo Piano seems oddly out of place — but its oddness is exactly why it fits into the motley artistic life of Gonzales.
